Welcome to Lithuania
February at school started with the visit of Erasmus+ School Exchange Partnership (KA229) project "Utilizing the Computer as a Tool for Studying - Own Knowledge Acquiring" (02/02/2020 - 08/02/2020) welcoming the guests from Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria. The aim of the project is to include digital tools used for Literature, Maths and Religion lessons and present them to the project partners. Another goal is to develop intercultural communication competences by sharing the customs and traditions of different cultures. The coordinator of this project is our school, so this meeting was the first, cognitive. The project implementation and workgroup consists of the English teachers: Gerda Juodiškienė, Edita Brazauskienė, Ana Gaidamavičienė, the IT teacher Agnė Zlatkauskienė and the assistant of head Kristina Žilienė.
The week was very busy. During the visit, the guests participated in the lessons, performed by our gymnasium students and teachers applying digital tools enrolled in the lessons to revel the topic of the subject. After a presentation observation of the lesson proceeded. Finally, the achieved results were discussed. The whole project team worked intensively, organized workshops, implemented the activities foreseen in advance for the project partners. Also, upcoming visits and activities to be completed by the end of the project in 2021 June were discussed. To enrich the project activities and to present the virtual learning platforms of the 21st century the KT university lecturer Mr. G. Cibulskis was invited.
Cooperation and knowledge of the project partners traditions are very important, hence the project activities included educational excursions in Lithuania. The gymnasium students introduced the city of Kaunas: guided the guests from the Kaunas castle to the Įgula church by presenting the main sights of the city. The capital city Vilnius was introduced by a charismatic guide. Due to her performance the remains of the old Vilnius streets and the nobles of the cathedral were revived. In the Trakai Castle, some guests found links to their country's traditions, education. "Let's make kibinai ourselves" caused a great interest. On the way to Druskininkai, guests enjoyed the peace and quiet in the Merkinė’s pyramid, admired the natural beauty of Dzūkija on the observation tower and mound also investigated the Liškiava architectural ensemble: the monastery and church.
Despite the fact that the week was very intense and required not only teachers but also the students hard work, the project participants and the organizers can be proud of the project's successful launch and first achievements. The next meeting is going to be held in Bulgaria in October, 2020. We are looking forward for the next meeting.
